Just got the pdf of a book I contributed to called "Craft Beers for Homebrewers".  Recipes straight from the brewmasters of some of America's best breweries.  Should be out right after the first of the year in both paper and e versions from just about every book retailer.  Looks like it's gonna be a killer book!

Depends on what you consider exciting!  I contributed recipes from Oakshire and Rogue.  Oakshire Watershed IPA is one of the best I've ever had.

That sounds great. I love coming up with my own recipes but I also like looking at commercial ones.

with an endorsement like that it sounds great.  did you brew these beers at their respective breweries or something?  why aren't they contributing them directly?  of course i'd always want the recipe to "best ipa ever"

We each contacted the brewmasters at each brewery and asked for recipes.  A surprising number of them weren't interested in helping us.  When we got recipes from them we converted them to 5 gal. batches and double checked the conversions with the breweries.

That sounds great. I love coming up with my own recipes but I also like looking at commercial ones.

I like to brew exactly like the published recipes say, but I leave out the Irish moss and gel instead. Then, because of the change I call it my original recipe! Seriously, these books and published recipes are great for me to achieve satisfying baselines. I usually read many variations of a profile if it is my first time brewing it. Then I try to imagine the characteristic difference in each, and figure out what I may want more or less of, or leave out anything I am sure I may not care for. Brew and then tweak from there. I will be sure to get this once released, the more looks at approaches to a finished product, help me understand the style better as well. Almost every style has a variance of acceptable characteristics, it is fun to see numerous interpretations. Thanks Denny for your input, cant wait to get it!
