Yep. That's it im skeered..Just saying there are no good video procedures i can find.
Ya know, it doesn't go into the beer. I run the water or StarSan into a separate container, then redirect the tubing after the beer starts flowing.

that's what i used to do. i'm sure a little bit of starsan ended up in the beer but diluted I don't think it matters.

Me too. I think my tap water has enough chlorine in it to make sure things stay clean too so I fill my tubing & cane with tap water, let the water flow into a cup or something and then go to the keg/secondary/whatever. Kegdude, are you asking for a vid of someone using a racking cane and tubing or an autosiphon?I just Googled some stuff and what I found was appalling both in production and content. I know a vid would be good but here's what I do: Connect the tubing to the cane and hold the cane in your left hand and hold it over your sink. Take the tubing in your right hand and hold it under the flow from your faucet and let the tubing and cane fill with water. Air pockets can cause problems so fill it slowly and once water starts flowing out of the end of the cane in your left hand, stop filling and put your [hopefully clean] finger over the end of the tubing. Place the cane into the wort/beer while keeping the tubing end covered. Then move the tubing to a place where you can let the water fly. At the point right before the wort/beer is about to come out of the tube, I stop the flow, redirect it to the primary/secondary/keg/whatever and go. if it's a keg or secondary, I'm dropping the tubing to the bottom and trying to prevent splashing. If it's primary, I place it into a sanitized strainer and let it splash all I want. Clear as mud?Ya know, it doesn't go into the beer. I run the water or StarSan into a separate container, then redirect the tubing after the beer starts flowing.

I've got to xfer 2 batches today. If I can get things set up properly, I'll try to shoot a vid of how I do it.

You must lead a boring life.... a while back, the AHA made a series of videos based on my equipment and techniques. Here are some demo vids I made to show them what to shoot and how it's done...

I was in the music biz for so many years, that I relate music to working, not enjoyment. It's kind of a bummer. I seldom listen to music and when I do it's something like Edgar Meyer or Yo Yo Ma.

Yeah that is a bummer. Well at least there are a few good artists that still do it for you.

That's what im talking about. So many bad videos out there, we need more good ones.

Exactly, thanks for the general use pointers Ken.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get it set up right. I move around so much I need someone to follow me with a camera.

I vaguely recall a brewer (on this forum, if I remember correctly) that made a stainless autosiphon. I almost got one from him, but realized that I am pretty happy with what I do with my stainless racking cane.
I don't use water in the tubing, I actually use the tapered end of a turkey baster with the bulb removed. I stick the narrow end into the tubing (I use silicone, so it easily expands), then I inhale on the other end creating negative pressure and starting the siphon. I do run off to small bucket first to remove any trub that the racking cane may have picked up initially.
For a while, I was using co2 for transfers to do closed transfers, but it added complexity and wasted a good amount of co2, so I went back to regular siphons.

I think Swagman made a SS autosiphon.

I've also started the siphon with a 60 mL syringe, but that's just another piece of equipment that I don't need. The tubing has Starsan in it already from sanitization, so it just seems more practical to use that to start the siphon.
