Martin is the guest. Listened to it a couple of days ago while on the bike. Several good tidbits in there.

Well I don't know if anyone else listened to the first one or not but here is the second installment. https://thebrewingne....com/shows/1084

Very interesting stuff… both shows. The title is "Water Regions" which by itself isn't that interesting to me but there is all kinds of other good stuff Martin gives us in these shows including answers to many questions I've seen go unanswered here.

Ken, (or really, anyone interested in adjusting water to improve their beer) you have to listen to this show. You will be particularly interested in the second half of the show which covers the waters of Bavaria. Good stuff on pH lactic acid/acidulated malt. Listening to both shows you can see that Jamil is not too into playing with water as he has stated in the past. But then Martin reveals a little trick he used with chalk and lactic acid to replicate the contribution of lactate in Bavarian styles. That immediately caught Jamil's attention and he stopped Martin from moving on and pushed him for the details on how to do it. Martin delivers.

Interesting. Not sure if I have heard either one although I do remember listening to some water stuff on BN. I'll give them a listen as soon as I can. Thanks for posting.

Is there much asshattery in those episodes?  I pretty much avoid BN shows due to the juvenile level, but if it's not too bad I may have to listen to that one.

It's annoying but nothing that can't be skipped over. In these episodes there's a little, as there always is, but mostly at the beginning and very little after breaks. Download the podcast and you can scroll right through it.

I sometimes get bored with these because it feels like it takes them FOREVER to get to the point. The talk, they job at each other, they talk about something off-topic and they take the scenic route for awhile before they get into the real nuts & bolts. I do enjoy the shows but it feels like they could easily be boiled down to 20 minutes.

I know but whenever I try to go past the assclown stuff, I go too far and miss something and then I have to go back and by the time I get to where I want, it took me longer to get there than if I had just listened to all of it in the first place.

Rules of thumb...

Brew Strong episodes- scroll 'til the end of the Blichmann read at the beginning, about 5 minutes in. Then they tend to get on topic pretty quick. Not that much assclown on Brew Strong.

Jamil Show- scroll until about 8 or 9 minutes in. More assclown stuff than Brew Strong but usually pretty easily to get past. Around 9 or 10 minutes in is when they tend to get down to business.

Sunday Session- 95% assclown. If you are really interested in the guest or topic at hand scroll until about 35 or 40 minutes in and that's when they usually introduce the first guest. Even then the interviews can be difficult to listen to. (especially if it's that dude from Lagunitas... jeesh.)

I listen to Brew Strong and the Jamil Show while on my bike trainer in the wintertime so I have heard quite a few of them and learned a lot. I very rarely listen to the Sunday Session and when I do it's only for the guest portion of the show.
