What are the biggest competitions (most competitive) in the US, or in your area? (excluding NHC)
Cheers!

most big clubs in NY state host a competition and there is a NYSHOTY (NY state homebrew of the year) award each year based on accumulated points from all of the competitions. So if you are into it, you want to enter them all.

We have something similar, but some are better than others. I'm talking individual competitions. In Florida the Best Florida Beer Competition is the big one of 7 in the circuit for the points. There are a couple other big ones, but they aren't as well respected.
Feeling confident, my friend?
I was just thinking about entering some bigger out of state comps to see how things go.

The US Open in Charlotte is pretty big. Every year it's over 500 entries. You have till April 30th to submit.

Can't enter that one. It's been over for a couple months. It's on the radar possibly for next year.

You are welcome.I have to say, when I first started entering comps I was just spraying entries all over America just so I could have my self bragging rights of knowing I won medals in AZ, or CA. I entered the UMMO just because the website was actually influential for me back when I was recipe searching, and they post past winners recipes. I thought thatbwas reaaly cool, so I was extremely excited to take a first in it. Then when I got the invite for the MCAB from it, it changed the way I looked at whichcomps I would enter. If I wanted to do 6 comps a year, why not make them all be MCAB qualifiers? It is always exciting to take a medal, but when you take one from a comp with fierce competion of great brewers, and your subcategory has 25 entries, you feel that much better. It really makes you brew tighter better competition beers. Thanks Thirsty!
