After doing a hop inventory I see I have way too much Citra, over 4#’s!, so it seems like a perfect time to brew up a IIPA.  Seeing I also have a fair amount of Amarillo on hand I decided to throw some in too since Citra and Amarillo make a great team.  This one takes a bit from Lawson’s Double Sunshine and Kern River Citra.

Whats the purpose of the Vienna?

Add a little flavor and I like to mix my base malts.  That is take from Double Sunshine.  I do have one issue keeping it in there and that is the Vienna I have is 6L , putting it pretty close to munch and I am not sure if it will be too overpowering for this.  I have the recipe written up with it in and with it out.

I did recently do an APA with 2Row and Vienna as the base.  That was 17% Vienna and I really like the color that Vienna added and to me I am not getting anything overpowering from the malt bill.

Game time decision I guess as I am weighing out the grains.

That vienna % is very similar to the amount of munich used in FW Double Jack. In fact the whole grist is similar. Seems toe that most of the best IIPAs are really just variations on a theme. It works. This one looks good to me.

Drez, this and the beer I am making today (consequently, also Amarillo and Citra) reminds me... Did you ever crack into your 2013 Amarillo and were they grassy as some reported? I am at the tail end of my 2012 stock.

I have one unopened pound of both 2013 & 2014. I am going to make a tincture with the 13 to see if I get any off flavors. I have seen many say their 2013 was fine, fingers crossed.
