Would a ungrounded thermocouple in a grounded kettle make it read wrong? My probe out of the kettle reads spot on but in the kettle it's 3 C off.

I don't see how grounding would affect it.  How's it mounted?

Dan likes to mount it from behind. So he can hold a beer while he uses it.
