One thing I missed during beer week was the Pilsner Urquell tap take overs. The brewery sent over some unfiltered fresh beer for beer week. A bunch of guys from my brew club went and tried it. So far the notion is that it's FAN-####ING-TASTIC. Completely different than what we get in the states. Really uber tasty beer. Now I'm sad I didn't get to try it, but it's on my radar to try and brew something like it. My club is maturing and people like me and a few others are starting to take on lagers, which have been completely ignored by us.

Anyone had some at the brewery or in fresh Europe?

I've not tried the unfiltered version but drank quite a bit of PU in the Czech Republic.  having said that I'm more of a Staropramen fan, but PU and Budvar are both excellent pilsners

I've had Urquell in Pilzen, but not at the brewery, and I stayed in a Bierhall/hotel that was a Budvar-tied house. Good stuff. Not hugely different from what I get on tap here or from fresh cans, but, from the descriptions of oxidized beer I hear from other parts of the country, we may get fresher stuff in Boston. I won't buy bottles, though.

Perhaps the thing I notice the most about Pilsners in Germany and Czech Republic are how hoppy they are. Hop flavor, not bitterness.
