Twice now in 4 brew sessions I have forgotten to turn off my HLT element and dry fired it. Any of you smart guys figured out a way to wire in a warning or automatic shutoff into your panels?

What about adding something like this https://www.ebrewsupply.com/1-2-npt-stainless-steel-float-switch.html.  I could see you having it slightly above the element to trigger an alarm or have it set up to open the relay  or contactor signal.

I have to think about this a bit more.  I have only had the issue one time and that is when I left a ball valve open, idiot!

ETA: another option

That Auber could work perfect I think. Id have to figure out the wiring. But that would work great to actually shut off the heater even when the heater switch is on.

I would think you can just wire it in to the SSR trigger wire that comes out of your PID.  So it would be PID -> float switch -> + SSR input.

I might add one to my system for some cheap insurance.

Ok, this sounds easy enough. Mount it float up right at the level of the heater and call it good!

Thanks Drez.

I wonder if they could put a QD on the wiring so it could be separated from the panel for cleaning. Hmmmm.

Yup, that's what I'd do.

$25 seems reasonable to me. Figure the wiring and this is a must have!
