So I've only used Amarillo once in 5 years brewing... It was darn nice beer.  I'm a huge fan of Cent, Cascade, Columbus and Simcoe.  I need to order some hops since my Cents are down to 2 oz or so.  Would it be worth my time to order a pound of Amarillo?  Or is this not a heavy handed hop?

I like to use all my hops "heavy handed" so I may not be the best to comment but I like amarillo a lot and finds it goes great with simcoe and citra.

Amarillo American Wheat (Gumballhead) is a great summer wheat beer, about 5 ounces of Amarillo in a 5 gallon batch.

it does have a very distinct flavor profile so if you want to balance it with other hops I'd say don't go to crazy depending on the other hops.  like if you were blending with Chinook you could go 1/2 and 1/2.  if you were blending with cent I'd probably do 2 parts cent to 1 part Amarillo.  of course it all depends on what you are going for.

My .02:

Amarillo has great potential in several styles; APA and IPA goes w/o saying.  I like to use it as a late addition in a particular Saison I make.  I like how it bounces along with Belle Saison or 565.

Definitely get u some.

Ill second this. Also, Hops Direct still has some but a lot of other places have sold out so you might not want to wait too long. And yes, get  pound of it.

I'm thinking of dry hopping half of my "Hennepin like" beers I'll be making.  it would be an interesting comparison.

To me, Amarillo is a "more is better" kind of hop kind or like Citra.  I haven't found the upper bounds yet.

They are even better in concert. https://www.brews-br...1272/?p=1721190

Second recipe in that post.

I've found Amarillo plus Citra is a dynamite combo.

My Amarillo/Citra Stock Ale/IPA uses Amarillo for late additions in the boil, and then a big Citra whirlpool/hopstand addition.

That was a really nice beer; thankfully, it's next on my to-brew list.

I agree.  Me, Amarillo as a single hop just doesn't work.  The one or two times I had Gumballhead I couldn't tell.  What I had really wasn't hoppy at all.  I distinctly being underwhelmed after the hype I had heard/read.

If you had it from a bottle that makes sense. Always fails for me too. Most beers are better on tap, Gumballhead in spades.

I made an Amarillo/Citra IPA and it was fantastic.
