Wow, shocked they did that from a marketing stand point but I would buy it now because of it.

I know. Surprising but a welcome change. I really like Urquell when it's not lightstruck.

They did a big push in Tampa for beer week. The brought in a lot of fresh beer, I think some served from barrels, and from those that had it said it was wonderful, like nothing they'd had from PU before.

Hopefully that spurs a change among other brewers who are 'greenies'. There's some really good beer and green/clear bottles that you can't drink unless it's right out of the case. I don't even mind heineken from the can/keg, bottles are almost always nasty.Nothing worse than being at a party/event in the summer where they have the big open ice bins of beer and all they have in there is bud/bud lt/heineken/stella. Swill or skunk, take your pick.

I remember I was at the track last summer with a big group and they were serving Pilsner Urquell in big 16-oz cans. That was the first time I saw that and it was excellent. Much, much better than the green-bottled versions I have had in the past.

16 oz Urquells, eh?  Sounds like a party.

There are even a bunch of different can designs...Posted ImagePosted ImageI got one of these and when I went back for another the can was different and I thought I got the wrong beer. Duh. That Staropramen would be great too. The can really protects the beer much better than a bottle. I have been picking up 14 or 16 ounce cans of Stiegl (Austria) lately too.

I found some of this on tap at a bar in NYC last fall. I was very excited to find it because I'll never get it here and figured it would be fresh (or at least close) in NYC. It was horrific. Oxidized and very stale. I was so disappointed. Still never had a fresh version of this style.

LOL. I bet that if you found a can of it like Murphy posted it would be pretty good. I have a great bottle shop (Binny's... I'm sure you're familiar with it) and I would bet that they carry the Staro and the PU in cans there. LMK if you're interested and I'll pick some up and ship it over to you.

No, thanks. I'll be in Chicago in a few weeks. There is almost always a Binney's stop when we are there so I will make sure it happens and look for it.

This reminds me of when I was at a decent beer place nearby and they had a beer on tap called Trumer Pils which I hadn't heard of at the time. I tried it and it was downright awful. But when I was in Vienna I had the chance to try it there and it was delicious. That link shows that the beer is brewed in California but I thought it was either German or Austrian.
