I think they do a nice mix of US and German versions, IPL, APA-like Pale Lager, as well as Pilsner, Maibock, etc., and the wonderful Smoke and DaggerI agree that JA is doing very well but a lot of their beers are hoppy offerings as well so that to me does not go with the traditional German beers. Although Smoke and Dagger is one of my favorites.

They call it a Black Lager. It is not as smoky as a Rauchbier. Very nice beer IMO

Well, you have to play to the market a little. Yuo can't deny that hops are king right now. Hoponious Union is everywhere nowadays. It's great beer and surely keeps them afloat to brew all the other more traditional (and untraditional) beers.

KC Bier Company has been a hit since day one. They're only a few minutes away and have taps all over town.

Yeah, it's a mildly smoky Schwarzbier. Slightly smokier than the Schlenkerla Helles. When it was new, the smoke was nearly undetectable. They ramped it up a little over time, but still mild.
They also brew a true Rauchbier, occasionally.

I might have been good that I was "alerted" to the Schlenkerla helles ahead of time by you guys. I was expecting a mess of a beer... cloudy, meaty, weedy, crackery, etc. but it was nothing like that. Delicious beer. I'm sure the Smoke & Dagger would agree with my tastebuds.Yeah, it's a mildly smoky Schwarzbier. Slightly smokier than the Schlenkerla Helles.
