I brewed 'something' last night. I was actually just fooling around testing out the MLT i had just put together. I put a few pounds of grain in it and did a live mash to check for leaks/problems.

I hadn't planned on doing anything with the wort, but when i was done i was like, screw it, might as well boil it up for starters, or something. When it got to a boil i remembered i had some hops from last year in the freezer. I decided to make up a batch. It'll be interesting...

I ended up with:

5# 2-row
.25# C40
2oz roasted barley
Mash at 152 for 60
Boil 15 min
1oz amarillo 12 mins
1oz centennial 12 mins
1oz columbus whirlpool

~2 gal at 1.060.

hmmmm...

Sounds like a Hoppy Brown ale or darker than that?

Sounds tasty, what yeast profile did you use?

I'm using WLP001.  I had some in the fridge for an IPA bought this popped up.

If I was going to categorize it, hoppy brown would probably be a good shot.  Maybe hoppy brown porter.

Maybe...don't recall that one.  I had a great rye pils from Base Camp recently.  I had just brewed a German pils and had the slurry saved, so I decided that rye pils was next up.

How much (%) rye do you put in your rye pils?

3oz of hops int he last 12mins/WP is pretty solid for a 1.75 gal. I'm curious how this will turn out. The wort tasted pretty bitter...

The wort always tastes excessively bitter to me. I think fermentation has a way of evening that out. different yeast will effect finished IBUs differently too.

Not brewing. I kegged a batch of MLPA and I'm taking it off the gas on Monday morning. But I did plan my next two beers... Bordertown Mexican Dark Lager (again!) with WLP940 Mexican Lager ryeast and also a blonde ale bittered with Mt. Hood and then a bunch of Santiam late. The grain bill will be half pilsner and half wheat, yeast is 1056.

No brewing but keg and carboy cleaning. Thought I was being stealthy and dry hopped a batch using a paint strainer bag. It appears I now have a messy fermenter with just as many hop particles inside as well as outside the bag. Yay me. I sure hope the whole mess drops out before kegging.

If not a cold crash should take care of it.

Thanks nettles. Good news is I have the room to crash it in my keezer. Bad news is that I have that room to crash a fermenter where otherwise there would be two kegs of beer sitting hahahaha.....
