If you're interested, this is the best price I've seen in ages. I jumped on it myself, but there is a 3/person limit.

$25 is a good deal?  What's the normal price?  I never really looked at the Vittles Vaults.

For people using Vittles Vaults, what's the reasoning for the Vault versus two 5 gal buckets?

For me one vittle vault will take the place of two 5 gal buckets. And yes, that's a great deal, haven't seen them for less than $45ish for a long time.

Exactly! Which is why I hadn't bit, until now. Then I had my wife buy two more. So I'll have 5: Pils, Pale, Munich, Vienna, Wheat.

I have an 8 gallon one I use for a fermenter. I hate that sucker. Hard to get a seal on the lid. It's short and fat(like your mom) and sits against my coldplate in my wine fridge with door jammed against it. If I'm not careful, I will freeze the back half of my beer. Plus, they aren't stackable inside one another and take up too much space. Grumble, grumble...

Thankfully I don't need them to be stackable, even though they claim that they are.

For those of you with these Vittle Vaults, how wide is the opening on top? I have an idea for one of these as a keg cooler I want to build.

Not the new ones... they're screw caps

The screw tops bases are pushed on like a std bucket lid--same size. I took mine off a used a reg bucket lid. Too many crevices for bugs to hide in for a primary.

Yeah I can see that now. As long as a keg fits in I'm good. I plan on getting the 80lb. one to build a portable keg cooler.

What about just a plain old cylindrical cooler?  Seems a bit silly to buy an expensive plastic tub when you can get an insulated tub for not much more.

Especially since the 80 lb ones are $56. You can buy a 10 gal cylindrical cooler for that much.

But they are not tall enough to completely fit a keg inside, unless you can point me to one.

$30, and you can rig it up so the pedal dispense the beer.  :D
