PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Maine brewer is offering a quicker way to consume two of the state's summertime staples: beer and lobster.

Oxbow Brewing is serving up beer brewed with live Maine lobsters and a dash of sea salt.

PASS!  No need to ruin a good beer by adding lobsters to it.

Some brewery around here made an oyster stout with whole oysters in it (not just shells) a few years ago. I don't remember who and I never bothered trying to find it.

I'm sorry... just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

There is a small getup here in Madison that crowdsources their beer.  Public gets to submit "recipes", the public votes by "pre-order".  The beer with the most pre-orders is what they brew.  I've heard some of them just aren't any good.  Here is the site with their past beers:

On an upside, this post has wet my appetite for a couple bags of clams and mussles for Saturday night. Maybe throw in a shrimp boil too. And drink..... wait for it...... COLD HOME BREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This turned out surprisingly tasty.  would I want 5 gal. of it?  Nope...but it was far from the disaster I expected.

Of course, a real Oyster Stout doesn't have any oysters in it and it is a great style, much like an Oatmeal Stout.

What is a "real" oyster stout?

The reason we did NE style was because I joked about the Manhattan and Drew, being from Boston, took offense and wrote the NE style recipe.

What is a "real" oyster stout?

A "real" traditional oyster stout used only the shells to add calcium.
