well as you know the things we do and the things the pros do don't always make sense in both places.  I really don't know what happens though.  Certainly at 80F for instance the hops will not be dry within an hour so I'm not sure what the kaiser is talking about.

GLORIOUS!

So how do they separate the hop cones from the rest of the plant?  I don't see any leaves or stems in there to speak of!

Agreed on homebrewers not always doing things like the commercials.  But I can tell you that my hops turned out much better by using 130F and drying quickly than any other method I tried...and I tried a LOT of different stuff!

They use pickers like this.  Then the cones are run through kind of "shakers" to further separate the cones from the remaining leaves.

If anyone is interested, my entire album of photos from last year's Hop and Brew School is here....https://s794.photobu...rew School 2014

Awesome. I used the dehydrator, and 2-9 hours was about right. It took several batches to finish up but I ended up with 2.5 lbs of dried Cascades from 2 half to 3/4 full brown paper grocery bags. They smelled nice going into the freezer! Can't wait to brew with them.

Mine is the standard cheapo American Harvest that you can find everywhere.  I use 6 trays at a time, although you can go up to 12.

That's what I have. I got one with 12 trays for $10 in a garage sale 15 yrs. ago. 2 full loads of apples this week, still works great.
