I'd use about half the slurry you harvest.

 

damn!  that much.  I'll either have to fill a bunch of mason jars or figure out a larger vessel to hold the slurry in until I can use it.

It's a SWAG....rough guess, I'd say a pint or 2 would be enough.

I'm considering doing this for a barrel batch for the BGS I'm brewing this weekend. I'd make a starter with my regular process doing a 4 L starter. That should give me enough yeast to step up. I'll then make 8 L of wort and use my 6 gallon big mouth bubbler, add the 1st starter, and do this shaken starter thing. I think I ought to get enough yeast.
