Does anyone have a website, a kit, or anything that I could point someone to who wants to start brewing AG but lives in an apt so would like to brew 2-3 gallon batches?  JKor has a nice setup but I think that a RIMS is a little beyond what a noob would want to get into.

I was thinking 5 gallon kettle, 5 gallon cylindrical cooler (mash tun).  Maybe a 3 or 5 gal better bottle for fermentation?

but if there is something better out there I'd like to pass it on.

Why not a 5g ss kettle and a BIAB setup?

ETA: I am sure searching will find something cheaper but just as a start https://www.northern...ain-starter-kit

Seems like newbie brewers are flocking to BIAB.  Maybe look for a some suggestions along those lines?  That's pretty cheap and easy, which would allow for more $$$ to go towards the ferm control system.

I don't know what BIABers are using, but I have this pot.  It's bullet proof.

it seems like a 5 gal kettle would be right on the edge of BIAB if I understand it correctly.  I'm just thinking something like 6lbs of grain and a 3qt/lb ratio to hit full pre-boil volume is right at the limit of a 5 gallon kettle.  maybe I missed something though.  what kind of water/grain ratio do BIAB people typically go for?

True, I was not thinking about that.  I guess you would need something closer to 32qts.  Not a deal breaker though 50 bucks for a kettle

good stuff.

yeah, I just worked out a theoretical batch and I was right that > 5 gallon kettle is probably required for this.  turns out that it was 2.9qt/lb.

For the small 5g batch I am doing this weekend I need 8.3G in the kettle.  That is for 10.563g of grain.  My ratio is 3.16qts/#

right.  I think for a lot of things it's going to be about 3 +/- 0.2 or so.  as someone who regularly tries to see if I can do no sparge I'm pretty familiar with the ratios I end up attempting, realizing I can't fit, and then backing away from
