von trapp vienna lager - really excellent.  not dark like I was expecting and really drinkable and delicious.  I might try to find out what goes into this beer for my own uses.

firestone walker pivo pils - also really good although not quite as enjoyable as the vienna lager but that could just be a style preference.

both were great beers though.  I had them both on tap at a local bar.

Von Trapp is great, have their dunkel in my fridge that I need to tap. I have seen the privo but have not had it yet, I remember Ken posting his version of the beer in the recipe section.

Pivo Pils?

Those are both great beers IMO. Both very authentic. The Pivo is maybe more hoppy than what you wiuld get in Czech but the character is very authentic to what i've had there.

yes.  my mistake!  edit forthcoming...

it did seem pretty damn hoppy especially after having the vienna lager.  I still really enjoyed it though.

Pivo pils sounds like a lager I would like. I hop my lagers like IPAs and APAs. Hopheads dont nessessarily have to brew ales.

So keg hopping a lager sounds like a good idea to you?

it was very reasonably priced at the bar I was at.  I think it was $5.50 while the von trapp vienna lager was $6.50 I think (yowzer!) but really it was excellent.

Since you liked that, keep your eyes open for Jever pils.

It's mindblowing, when you can find it fresh on tap. Man, can it skunk in a bottle, if mishandled.

The quality of import lagers in general, at least here, is shotty in bottles.

If there is a shop where I know their inventory enough to know that they have a new case of Jever, I'll buy it, but only from a closed case box or from the back of a shelf, sheltered from the fluorescent lights. Usually I end up passing it by and just remembering fondly how good it was those few times I've been lucky enough to find it on tap.
