So I was thinking for the next brewery upgrade is to get a second plate chiller. The second chiller would be a post chiller during the warmer months. I would pump cold ice water (most ice water is cold :) ) through the post chiller plate. I was thinking more in terms of a smaller footprint and wouldn't have to deal with the setup issues I have with my current PWC. I dunno, just brain storming at the moment.

My seldom used HERMS coil doubles as a postchiller in the summer.  Plastic bucket with lots of ice and cold water and a little fountain  pump moving water around the coils.  Not much of a footprint.

That's what I use too. It just gets in my way most the time. Its easier to mount a second plate chiller then figure out where to store a bucket, coil, and pump.

Dual plate chillers is a great efficient and compact way to chill. There was a member here that I thought had dual therminators for this purpose. I was quite jealous.

The only concern is the same concern for a single plate chiller, which is just sanitation of the second stage. Many who just have a single plate chiller recirculate boiling wort through it to sanitize before use. With two in series, I don't know how much heat you would lose, or if there would be too much restriction, but I suppose it could still work.

Were you thinking a dudadiesel model? There are a lot of choices there.

I dual it for every brew. 1st is the 60 plate dudadiesel diesel with ground water, then the therminator with recirculating ice water, then O2, then into the fermenter. I chill down to 48 in the hottest part of the summer. No worries.
Dudadiesel works great. So does therminator. Really a crap shoot.
