Just found this deal on Amazon Prime.  At $55, it is not much more than what you could do DIY.  Seems like a reasonable price if you don't want to do the build yourself.

not too bad.  9A is just a little worse than the STC-1000 10A rating.  for a lot of situations it would work just fine though.

the programming feature is kind of neat.

That's pretty good.  The 6 programmable steps is a really nice feature.  I may be in for one.

Question based on the assumption that I'm sorta handy and reliable. If I could adjust temp manually by the design of any given recipe, then couldn't I get away with the less expensive model? And if so, do you seen any pitfalls to buying one of these instead of the more pricier digitals found on Norther Brewer etc?

I'd compare the current rating on them.  that seems like it would be the biggest issue for you to consider.  what kind of cooling device will you be using?  how many amps does it draw?

Established brands will be more reliable.  That's the main thing.

All in the pre-procurement stages but a controller is definitely a necessity.

15 cu. ft. chest freezer.  I can get 5 buckets  in it at a time...if I wanted to.

I didn't really intend to order one that size.  But when I was ready to order, Sears had an energy efficiency freezer on sale with free delivery.  That's a big thing for me since I live outside of the delivery area and it would have me big $$ to get it delivered by someone else.  The price was good so I bought it. Then it showed up and I was kinda surprised....:)
