I was prepping for a brew day and I started waxing nostalgic about all the equipment I have and which is still part of the original kit I bought from Homebrew Adventures (when I lived in Charlotte in 2005).  So from that original kit the only things I have that I still use are the hydrometer and 5 gallon pot that I bought at Cabellas for the extract brews I started with.  Two summers ago I sold the chincy IC that I bought from Alt Bev (after they bought HBA).  Do you still have any parts of that original kit?

Just sold my glass carboys from my original kit. I still use the long plastic spoon though.

I actually still have my original hydrometer from 1999. It's a bloody miracle I haven't broken it because glass and I are natural enemies. One reason I still have it is because I never use it. I think that's about it. I do have my original "butterfly" red capper too but again... I don't use it.

let's see...

The original ale pail is for sanitizer.

I still have the original bottling bucket since it's only been used about half a dozen times.

I still have the original hydrometer.

The original 5 gal kettle sometimes gets sparge water duty.

Still have the red butterfly capper that sometimes gets used.

Still use the clip and tip of the original racking cane but that broke a long time ago and was replaced with a SS one.

I think that's it.

The above made me realize I still have my capper, ale pail and small kettle. The last two are still used just not for brewing.

Eta- oh and my original spirit filled thermometer.

oh yeah - I have the thermo as well but don't really use it.

I also have a high temp silicone spatula that I sometimes mix stuff with.

I don't even remember what equipment I started with. I doubt I'm using any of it.

Almost all of it. I've only been brewing for 4 years. I'm on like my 4th hydrometer though.

I still have and use most of my old stuff.  Mash tun is 18 years and 500 batches old and I still use it.

A majority of my stuff has been replaced (started brewing in 2002). Original items are turkey fryer burner/pot, the carboy that came with my kit, carboy and bottle brushes, bottle capper (seldom used) and stirring spoon.

I still have my Mr. Beer.

I store airlocks in it.

Have original glass carboys, still use for mead, and keggle made from (ahem) a re-purposed  Coors Light keg.

I don't have anything from when I brewed back in the '80's, but I have most everything from when I restarted, so about 12 years (I think).

  • Original carboys (but I only use the 5 gallon one now)
  • Bottling bucket (not used for anything)
  • Racking cane (tubing has been replaced, of course)
  • Capper (I occasionally use caps, but mostly use flip tops for a bottle here or there)
  • Kettle (I still used the 5 gallon one for 3 gallon batches until recently, but it was split near the top and my wife bought me a new one last year)
  • Airlocks, stoppers, spoon, bottling wand, and a few other odds and ends, probably, but NOT my original hydrometer.
  • I still use my first mash tun, which might be 6 months to a year younger than everything else, a 5-gallon (5.4-gallon, actually) Rubbermaid with the original braid. I have reconfigured the braid to add a dip tube to improve efficiency, but it is still the same piece of water supply line. It's still in great shape and I suspect it might last as long as I do.

I had to replace one that got pinched, but other than that they are durable.

I went to a manifold last year though out of simple curiosity.

I've had better luck with cheap aluminum kettles holding up, than the cheap stainless ones that tend to split.

A cheap aluminum pot is generally quite a bit better quality than a cheap stainless pot in my experience.

Same experience here. My aluminum pot is much thicker and has more substantial handles.
