Today's pop quiz. Without googling what do you think a Stingo is?

Well, this is posted in the beer forum so it must have something to do with beer!

I'll say it's a piece of equipment. It's got some sort of probe or something like a Thermapen (hence the STING in the name). Or like a wine-thief type of thing with a "stinger" you put into the beer or wine to take a sample. Never heard of such a thing.

That brings back memories of GABF 2009 and having a La Folie blended with Cider at Falling Rock .. so good.  I just wish I remember what music was playing :)

I've only ever had the Sam Smith Stingo. It's basically an English Old Ale, from my recollection.

I believe we shared a bottle of the Boulevard/Pretty things Stingo. It is a malty brownish higher abv English ale with a light sourness.

That's right. I've had two versions. That was an interesting beer. I miss Pretty Things and especially their old English beer style program.

From what I recall it was a unique UK beer that fell extinct in the '80s or early '90s.

The brewers at my local pub did a firkin of a Cherry Stingo. Excellent beer. They spoke of the definition was English between a BA and and Old Ale. May or may not be barrel aged.
