I need a new cleaner to do a real good deep clean on my system. I use hot PBW water now after every brew, but I have some beer stone in some lines. So what do you guys use for a cleaner while recirculating?

Assuming you're only talking about draft beer lines, I usually recirc hot BLC for ~15 min/tap line, flush with cold water, and then recirc some cold Star-San for ~2 min per line to sanitize.

I use double strength sani-clean to give my system a deep cleaning.  I will heat it to 130-140 and just set up a loop and let it go

No not talking about draft lines, though I do use BLC for that.

Talking actual brew system. I will look into the Sani-clean, have not heard of it.

That's good to hear. I have an old 16 oz bottle of the stuff that I can try out

This is the current state of my silicone tubing:

At this point though, I'm not sure if any cleaning could actually restore the original color. Haha. I may still give it a try though.

That is some great info, unfortunately Nitric Acid scares me.

Haha. That, peracetic acid, and concentrated caustic all scare me. I bought some lye crystals years ago, but I've never used it.

Haha. I've thought about it. I'm not too concerned though as I have recirculated boiling wort through them, as well as sanitizer (depends on how I chill - immersion, I'll pump boiling wort, dual counterflow, and I'll pump sanitizer through it for a long time).

Though, it isn't that great of a cost considering how long I've used it for. I may try the sani clean first and see how it looks after that.

I'm considering doing citric acid followed by PBW for brewday stuff recirculation.  I'm a little surprised but hot PBW in the keg washer seems to keep the kegs sparkling.  I used to get beerstone in them before I built the washer.

eta - nitric acid - nope

Replace the lines.

True but I should expand on my OP. Not only do my beer lines look like gnef's above, but I have fittings that have build up as well. So I could replace lines but really it just needs a good deep clean.

Why trip on it? My lines look like that and have for probably most of the 15 yrs Ive been brewing. Its the hot side so what does it really matter if there is some stain on the tubing?

Craftmeister alkaline brewery wash....I have yet to find anything safe that works better.

I do have some beerstone on the camlocks as well like the OP that I would like to clean. The tubing is exclusively used on the hotside except for the exit of the counterflow. It would be good for me to use a chemical to do a thorough cleaning though, I think. When I took apart the fittings from my old march pump, there was beerstone covering the entire inside surfaces of all my stainless fittings. I'd like to do better now.

I think I'll get some (just found it on Amazon) and give it a try later. I'll probably use the chemicals I have right now first, and maybe give this a try later on. It would be worth it for me to keep it on hand for future use if anything.

For beerstone though, it seems like an acid would work better. Have you used the alkaline cleaner on beerstone with good results too?
