This was a take on One Claw from Westbrook Brewing.  I saw the recipe reading online and modified it slightly to work with my system.  This was a 30 minute boil and a 20 minute whirlpool/steep.  I am really happy how this came out and several tasters have also complimented it.  A bit less hops than normal for me but it is a nice easy drinker to have on tap.

The Claw – RYE APA

OG – 1.057

ABV – 5.6%

SRM ~ 6

Grist
72% (9#) Two Row Pale
12% (1.5#) Rye
8% (1#) Munich (6L)

6% (.75#) Wheat
2% (.25#) C-40

Hops
22g Citra @30  - 10.2 IBU
14g Nelson @ 10 – 6.8 IBU
14g Citra @5 – 3.7 IBU
28g Nelson @whirlpool@ 175
28g Citra @whirlpool@ 175
28g Nelson @DH
28g Citra @DH

Dry Hopping done at 65* for about 4-5 days

Yeast
1272

Water
Calcium – 116
Sulfate – 160
Chloride – 89

pH=5.37

I can see this being a staple on my taps.  Real nice beer and I agree it is a nice malt bill that would be a good canvas for other hop combos.

it would be a nice contrast to your other typical grain bill.  a little more focus on malt complexity.  it's good to change things up.

Me, no and the reason is most of the time I have another very hop forward beer ( usually my Chinook/Citra/Simcoe APA) on tap so this is a nice change from that.  I could see someone wanting a bit more in the DH or steep though.  For me and what I was after this is a good balance and the fact that my wife likes and drinks it means I will leave it where it is :).

"The wife likes it"..solid reasoning, and I like the beer. A lot. I have a similar idea that I just made the starter for. Pils, rye, touch of caravienne, all Nelson and 3711.

that grain bill says "Columbus, Chinook and cent" to me.  something with some serious pine and dank and a little citrus.

PS: drez, check your PM inbox.

I could get behind that hop bill but I think I would have to kick in some Simcoe.

Anything different with the 30 minute boil? More vigorous or the same as 60?

I really like some One Claw. It is one of my go to beers if I need a canned option. Recipe looks great. I've been wanting to try Nelson sometime, still never brewed with them. I could be wrong but I thought there were Cents in One claw as well.

Not sure, never had the original. The recipe I saw had nugget to bitter but I got rid of that.
