Anyone use the plastic mason jar lids when they are storing yeast?  I wonder if I just leave it on loose for a day or two and then tighten it if it will be ok.

I've only used the standard metal lids and rings.

That is also typically what I use.  I have some of the plastic ones and feel they would be easier but not sure.

Yes. Just yesterday in fact. And I do exactly as you describe. I tighten it down and the back it off just a touch so it is barely loose and any pressure can be released if necessary.

I've used the plastic ones in the past.  I figured they might leak a little which is better than an explosion.

I can appreciate this having just thoroughly cleaned my beer fridge this past Sunday.

A year ago an overcarbed BDS sploded. Most but not all was cleaned up at that time.

I usually use mason jars covered with santized plastic wrap. I use a rubber band or the metal ring from the top to secure it.

Me, too.  They were originally LME containers.

I leave my lids loose then wrap foil around the lid so no nasties can get in. Got tired of burping them. Store with beer on top of the yeast.

I used to use clean water. Once I thought I'd lower the water pH w/ lactic acid to try and keep from having to burp the jars. This was the result.
