For Father's Day, i got one of these:

httpss://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Lasergrip-1080-Non-contact-Thermometer/dp/B00DMI632G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466636138&sr=8-1&keywords=etekcity+thermometer

If any of you fellow Blewbies have one (or something similar), have you found any brewing use for a thermometer like this one?

Since I mash in a cooler, I was thinking this might be useful for something like measuring strike water temps, once the water is added to the cooler.

I use one post-boil when doing hop stands and to monitor cooling.  Not accurate enough, IME, to trust for strike/mash temps.

Since it only measures surface temp, it's only good for situations where everything is at the same temperature. I don't imagine that it would be good for the mash where the interior of the mash might be at a different temperature than the surface.
