I enjoy the entire process of brewing. I think I actually enjoy the process of making the beer more than actually drinking it in many cases (don't get me wrong, I still enjoy imbibing). I like to tinker, make gadgets, have different projects going, upgrades, etc.

I am one that has spent a considerable amount of money on the hobby, and have dedicated a good amount of space in the basement. I don't have a fully automatic system with a fancy control panel or anything, but I have still invested quite a bit into the entire hobby, though I think my upgrades will be dramatically slower now.

I do enjoy seeing people's eyes and expressions when I open the door to my beer room, and then the door to the line of taps outside of the walk-in cooler.

Also, bringing beer to friend's gatherings with a jockey box is fun too.

Brewing has become an extension of my culinary passions with a wonderfully buzzy fringe benefit. Once you learn the science of how foods work, the possibilities are endless. I am finding the same with brewing but I have a long way to go in learning.

The #1 reason I brew:

Favorite summer thirst quencher:

Moorehouse Black Cat.  Dark English Mild.  3.4% ABV

cost $6 per pint imported from merry ol' England, where they know WTF a SESSION means!!!!

But I digress...

My knockoff, excuse me, clone (and a darn good one too): $30 in grain, yeast and propane.

Hmm.. Maybe it was $50. So let's go with $50.  I'm easy.

That's 27 gal into Blichman Fermenator, 25 gal out.

$50/(25*8)= $0.25 per pint.

Cost for 200 of the original:$1200, a savings of $1150.

And of course, my time is free.  :D

QED: WHY I HOMEBREW!!
