Got an altbier on deck for tomorrow; haven't brewed one in some time, looking forward to this one in a month or 2.

Anyone else brave enough (or crazy enough) to brew in this heat?

I'm hosting a 10 gallon brew at my home on the 13th for my brew club in my garage. It'll be Africa hot. I must be nuts.

Want to .. but we will see if I do.  Of course I really do not have much heat to brave inside.

Yep will be brewing a Rye pale. I really don't mind it. I have a pool to cool off and I am out of the sun while brewing.

I'll brew this weekend.  Waiting for the best chance of rain as usual to brew in the basement.  72df

Brewed up a pretty normal Pilsner, should call it Sudetenland Lager since it's kinda Czech and kinda German.

100% distilled water with just enough CaCl and Gypsum to get 40 ppm Ca and balanced ions.

5.5lbs Weyerman floor malt Pils
2.5lbs GW Premium Pale Malt
3oz acid malt

30 minute mash @ 152F

40 Minute Boil.

German Magnum to 30 IBU
.75 oz CZ Saaz @10 minutes
1.25 oz CZ Saaz @Whirlpool

Pitched a full quart slurry of 2124.

Used both Whirlfloc and Brewtan

Ended up brewing an American Stout on Saturday.  This was kind of on a whim so the recipe was not as vetted in my mind as normal.  In the end it turned out to be a long brew day, started about 10 and finished about 6:30.  I think that is the longest 5g batch I have ever done but I did have this issue along the way that needed to be dealt with.  In the end I ended up with a 1.066 American Stout that is chugging away today.

Do you know exactly what happened there?

I have a pretty good idea.  I think it was "wear and Tear" on the cord cap that caused the wire to have strands break over time.  I think i have been using that cord for over 8 years on various version of my system and truthfully the cord may have not been secured in the cap as well as it should have been do to the design of the cap.  Replaced it with a dryer outlet and plug and was back in business.

I have been brewing with some version of an electric system since the 2006 time frame and other than some dry fired elements (100% my fault) this is the first issue I have had.

I stopped using FB as a picture source for you.  I thought you could see flikr pictures, I guess not.

oh I can see them but I have to go through some hoops.  FB I have no way of seeing.  I usually only jump through the hoops if I really need to though ;)
