I'm trying to catch up. Earlier in the week I had 5 empty kegs in my brew bunker. My plan is to make a red lager with it on Saturday and then a pilsner of some variety and use the Weyermann Barke Pils. Then my Bordertown Dark Lager next. This is the first White Labs "ketchup-style" pack I have used. Starter is on the stirplate now and spinning......... Cheers Beerheads.

Are you buying your Barke Pils locally or online?

Locally. I went back to a place that I wasn't impressed with earlier and it's pretty close to my house. They also refill CO2 tanks (and don't look at the date stamp... ahem!) which saves me time going to a separate place for that (which often makes me come back the next day to pick up the full tank) so it's a good option. This place carries a wide variety of grains, Wyeast, Omega yeast, dry yeast, lots of equipment, etc. and the owner says that she has been brewing beer for 20+ years so she's a good resource in general. They're the place that turned me onto the Barke Pils.

Nice. Looks like rebel and NB are stocking it. May have to wait for a "20% one item" day ay NB and get some.

If you get some, pop a few kernels in your mouth and taste it. It's among the best pilsner malts I have ever used (Durst Turbo Pils is up there too) and when you have a soft, finesse beer where the base malt is the star of the show (like in a helles), this is the malt to use. If I were making something like a dunkel or Vienna, altbier or something where the character of the pils may be lost, I would use Best Malz or something similar.
