Lower conversion efficiency, so lower OG, which would probably result in lower FG and potentially less flavor.

Makes sense. I will keep an eye on it. I don't anticipate an issue because even now there are times when the mill doesn't want to cooperate and I have to turn the rollers in reverse and start again (usually works) so I don't think it's like the grain is just "falling through" the rollers and the crush does seem okay on all of these latest batches (since the adjustment) so my guess is that it's just this one batch where I had serious mill issues. Cheers & thanks.

Have you seen a lower than expected OG?

I haven't measured OG or FG in years. The mill adjustment point would have been a good time to check it but I didn't. On my next batch, I could check the OG and see where it is. Good point.

Yeah, I think that change would have been a good reason to check OG.

Yeah, I think that change would have been a good reason to check OG.

To be clear... I was very aware of the impact that the mill roller gap could have on the beer so the adjustment I made was really small and very deliberate. I used some feeler gauges to make sure that I knew the new gap setting and I tested and retested the mill on subsequent batches to make sure that everything looked okay. I think I went from the factory setting of .39 to .41. I mentioned earlier in the thread that the mill started acting this way when I started conditioning the malt and my guess was that the kernels were slightly expanding which prevented them from passing through the factory setting. Thanks for the replies... I'll report back if I see anything problematic.
