I had a brewday yesterday where I was going to make my Home Run Red Lager. But a couple nights before I envisioned something while I was laying in bed. This has happened to me before which tells you where my mind is. So I pushed the Red Lager back and made this instead. No clue what style it might be...
German Lager
8 lbs Weyermann Barke Pils
12 ounces Best Malz Vienna
8 ounces CaraVienne
4 ounces CaraFoam
1.5 ounces Hallertau pellets 3.1% for 60 minutes
1 ounce Hallertau pellets 3.1% for 30
1 ounce Hallertau pellets 3.1% for 1
White Labs 830 German Lager yeast
OG: 1.054, FG: 1.012, IBU: 30, SRM: 7, ABV: 5.2%
I mashed it around 150° for 60 minutes. I was trying to get a color close to the pale ale I posted in the POST A PICTURE OF YOUR PINT thread... that very pale amber and hopefully with that clarity. I also pushed the sulfate a little more on this beer... the water is "balanced" but I changed up the ratio a little for a crisper character. The 830 just came off of a very nice, quick starter that I made and there will also be a pilsner made with it, my Bordertown Dark Lager and the Red Lager. I haven't used 830 in a very long time but the aroma coming off the airlock this morning is really, really nice. There should also be some very nice base malt character here with all of that Barke Pils (85% of the grist) in there. Cheers.
A recipe that came to me in my sleep...
