this beer turned out great. solid grain bill for sure. it's kind of hard to go wrong with riffs on this basic idea. add carapils if you want more residual body. the wheat was just for fun. keep the crystal light and don't use too much. that's all there is to it.
AIPA (no cool name for it yet)

I will be doing something similar soon ( maybe this weekend) but I will be using Oat malt instead of thew wheat and Cara-Pils. Just 2-Row, Oats and some light to medium crystal.

is there a malted oat and a flaked oat? I've only used flaked oats (typically in the form of quick oats from the grocery store).

Yes, there are malted and flaked. Malted is harder to come by. https://www.ritebrew...ct-p/801159.htm
and a blog post about it https://www.alesofth...ett-malted.html
A lot of the guys doing NE style beers have been talking about it positively. My plan is to just use my basic APA grist with the Oats at 16%
8# Two Row
2# Maris Otter
2# Oat Malt
.5# Caravienne

I think if I used those I'd probably want to get some feeler gauges so i can adjust my mill back to whatever it is now. I'd hate to mess with it and then cause an issue. if it aint broke! I'll be interested to hear what you think though since this is a variation of something you are really familiar with.
you going to use some 1450?

I have feeler gauges so no issue there.
It will be 1450 or S-04. Depends if I have time to get a starter going.
Plan to go with Galaxy and Citra or Galaxy and Simcoe. 3:1 Galaxy to whatever.

so one keg got 2 oz of galazy, 0.5 oz of chinook and amarillo and 1 oz of citra. the other keg go 1 oz of galaxy, 1 oz of simcoe, 0.5 oz of amarillo, chinook and citra.
I think I like the second keg a little more. but they are both very tasty.

it's funny. when it's all cloudy it does taste more like a NEIPA and as it clears it is more like a west coast IPA. I like both so it's fine with me. all win.
early on it's really in your face and kind of rough and tumble.
now it's a little less intense but more refined. a little less fruit and a little more resin.

Thanks. That's just what I would have expected. Although I think a west coaster comes out better when clarified before the dry hop.

so keg #2 kicked a week ago. went pretty fast!
I don't think keg #1 is far behind. good thing I have more hoppy beer coming!
