Ok, the custom BIAB is ordered. hopefully i'll get to use it in December.

I got a custom bag to use in my MLT a while back.  I was using it in conjunction with a manifold and that caused me some issues.  This weekend I will give it a go with just the bag.  In retrospect I am not sure why I tried to use it with the manifold.

Good question. Old habits die hard. :)

I'm going to go with a hoist system. I might start making 15 gal batches, too since the 25g kettle can support it.

I'm going to make a custom insulation jacket for the kettle so i can mash in it. It's tempting to integrate a chiller coil that would also act as a fermentation control HX coil.

Here we go again with system design! :D

If you git a bag from Rex, he recommends removing all other lautering devices.

I had a reason for leaving it in at the time.  Hell if I can remember it now though.  I will just modify the pipe to the ball valve and give it a go this weekend.

I'm sure my reason would have been 'too lazy to take it out'. :)

Not really because I take it out at the end to clean and it is a PITA to put in.  Maybe it was drunk reasoning or something.

I just need to *finish* a brewing system. I have three brewing systems 'in process' right now. Four if you include the new BIAB system. I haven't brewed on the same system twice since i scrapped the trusty 3 tier in 2010. It's been some thrown together process using parts i have hanging around and partially built systems. I just need to finish ONE.

The silly thing is money is no object. I could sell all of my misc. parts and probably come away with $4-$5k and i wouldn't think twice about putting into a pre-built system. I just don't wanna! :) The combination of lack of time and indecisiveness has been killing me. (And lack of time)

I think the 25g eBIAB kettle is going to be it for me. Its basic enough that i can get it done in one big push. I just need to pull the trigger on a few things and make it happen.

The rest of the junk is going to eBay or the trash bin. It's settled! This is happening!

Story of my life.

I hate the equipment part.  I'd rather be brewing.  Once I find something that works I stick with it.

I work in R&D/product development. I can't leave well enough alone.

Take it out on the process and recipe, not the system. Lots of systems will make incredible beer.

Good advice. I occasionally heed it.

In other news, i feel i'm going to get drunk and buy brewing equipment tonight.

I just found out i have $900 in an old credit union account i forgot about. Talk about impulse buy justification!

That is where I got mine and it is very nice. I extended the pickup to my ball valve tonight and have the bag ready to go for Friday.

I have one for my cooler and one for my kettle on the way, too.

I do have one for my kettle and I have used it several times but I just worry that one of these days it will catch on the electric element in the bottom and tear.  It may be an unfounded concern but I still worry.

ETA:  It looks like I will be testing this out tomorrow morning while the bird is cooking away.

My batch is about ready to keg. It hasn't left the kettle yet. In fact it hasn't moved. It's still sitting on the burner. I'm planning on kegging right off the ball valve. It's high enough off the floor that i should be able to gravity fill into a horizontal keg with it at a slight angle.

I'm going to brew again this weekend with the bag from brewinabag.com. The bag looks pretty good. I'm hoping to have my electric hoist system set up by then, too.

I have pictures from the brew day, i promise i'll post them this weekend!
