My 3d year Cascades are off to a good start; multiple shoots are coming up.  Nice dark green color.

My 2nd year Centennials are also off to a suprisingly good start; one plant has 4 strong shoots coming up already.  Planted 2 rhizomes last year; got some growth, but neither did much of anything besides grow a little, despite regular feeding and watering.

My 2nd year Magnum plant is the biggest surprise, in that it's still alive at all:

When i had my garden retaining wall installed last fall, the workers also weeded my side garden bed (where my hop garden is), removed some old rocks, and laid some mulch.

After they were done, I went out to look at their work, and I noticed that were my Magnum plant was, there was no plant anymore.  Evidently the workers thought it was a weed and pulled it out.

Well, last week, I noticed something green coming up where it had been, and by a stroke of good luck, not all of the plant had been ripped out last year.  Looks like it survived after all.  :frank:

Any other hop growers seeing early progress in their gardens?

my columbus hops are going crazy.  In fact, i'll probably take a mattock to them before the end of the week.  They have taken over the area I planted them in.

Checked my plants earlier. Some have grown over 7 inches in less than 36 hours

Truthfully, the last few years I have debated telling my dad, since they are at his house, to just dig them up.  I typically just use the entire crop in a wet hop beer and last years was excellent but man they are a lot of work especially last year with the lack of rain and lots of mites.

I haven't harvested mine for a while.  I treat them as decorative at this point.

My one cascade plant died this year when I tried to dig up some rhizomes for a friend a few years ago.

I've measured them as growing 11 inches in one day

Question: for youse who've had hops grow so much in a day, how old were your plants at the time?

Mine are entering their 2nd/3d seasons, so I'm hopeful that this type of growth could be in the future for my plants.  :D
