With spring in full swing, Brew days, I'm sure, are becoming more enjoyable with the warmer weather for everyone. So whatcah makin this weekend?

My plan is to do a Vienna lager, with a heavy handed addition of late hops, and a single decoction; because I have the tolerance to do a decoction mash ad least once or twice a year.

Doing an alt in the Zymatic today.  Rye IPA in the Zymatic this weekend.  Blood Orange IPA in the Grainfather next week.  Probably throw in a Pico batch somewhere, too.

Doing my first (intentional ;) ) sour. Just pitched OYL Brett Blend No.3 into a 1L starter. Will brew Rare Barrel's golden base recipe Sunday, pitch Bootleg Biology Sour Weapon when the wort cools to 90F, then the Brett starter 24 Hrs later when the beer has cooled to 68F.  We shall see.

Nothing sadly. However we did our best to drink the Surly beer hall in Minneapolis dry tonight. We lost but had fun trying.

My single fermenter is still full from last weekend. Might be time to invest in another bucket...

I thought I was.  No bubbles for a day from the last batch in the fermenter.  Yesterday I tapped the conical with a rubber mallet to settle yeast for harvesting today.  All prepped and strike water ready when I got up.  Fermentation took off again overnight.......

I'm using Ken's MLPA as an inspiration. Going to make it a DMLPA. Basically just upped everything by 50%. I'm going to use a different yeast than his, not decided but if my lhbs has Dennys favorite but also thought about tossing in a Belgian yeast and see what I get. Here's the recipe so far:

Pale Malt 11 lbs
Crystal 1.5 lbs
Wheat Malt 1.25
My Hood 1.5oz (maybe 2)

11lbs marris otter
1.5lbs British crystal 50-60L
1.25 German wheat

2oz Mt hood - 1oz@60 min, 1oz @30 min
1056 chico wyeast

Not sure what it is, but it'll be beer!

I ended up way over sparging so I did a 90 min boil.  Still ended up about 1/2 gallon over on volume.  should have been about 1.070 but was 1.062.  I'll be ok with that if the ferment cleans up nicely.  Smells real nice coming out of the blowoff tube.

Should be a nice beer; the 1056 will clean up after itself nicely.

I'm shutting it down for a bit because I got a little ahead of myself. I have 4 beers in the draft fridges now (Blonde Ale, Amber Lager, Pale Ale, Dubbelfest) and 4 more kegs cold and carbed (Hacienda Lager, Bordertown Dark Lager, American Lager, Pale Ale with Cascade and Zythos) and then three beers sitting in O2-purged secondaries (Helles, Cream Ale, another dark lager). The two yeast strains I was using (S-04 and 2124) are retired and Omega Bayern and 1056 (or Omega West Coast Ale) will be next but I think it will be little while.

Put a batch of Bell's 2-Hearted Ale to bed earlier.  Another batch of renewed focus on water chemistry.

Wort looked, tasted, and smelled real nice going into the primary.

Got this carbed up and pulled my first glass. Very tasty. I think I'll dial. Back the crystal a little and maybe a different hop. Maybe some Chinook next time, 2oz at the beginning of the boil and 3oz at flame out or something like that.

I got impatient and busy and skipped secondary and just racked to the keg. The consequence is some yeast floaties but hopefully those will clear up the next week.

I'll post a pic in the pic of your pint thread.

I like the Chinook idea at the end, 2oz up front is a bit much imo. What is your process to go from primary to keg? A secondary is not really needed. I saw the beer in the other thread, looks good and should clear up in a week I imagine.

How about 2oz Amarillo up front 2 oz Chinook at flame out? I'm terrible with Hops lol

O had a mistake in my transfer where my racking can slipped out of my fingers and plunged into the yeast cake. :D
