I know you like this for your Bordertown recipe and also the Hacienda Mexican Lager but what else have you used it in?  I can see it working well in a Helles and maybe a No. German Pils?

My guess is that this is Modelo's yeast. The yeast really brings out the flavor that I detect in Victoria. As a result I have used it in lighter (gold) lagers and also amber-to-dark lagers with good results. If you go with the idea that Mexico's brewing infrastructure was put in place by Germans and Austrians, you could assume that this yeast would make good European beers whether the strain actually originates from Europe or Mexico City (which White Labs claims). I was emailing back and forth with Chris White years ago and asked him which WL strain I should use if I couldn't get 940 (this was when 940 was a seasonal strain) and he told me 830 (German Lager) is the closest. So... helles, pilsner, dunkel, festbier, Vienna, bock and the list goes on. I would not hesitate to use that yeast in any of those styles. Cheers.

Cool, thanks.  I got the hankering to brew up a schwarzbier and I think I may try it in that.

Let me know how you like it. It does have some European character but I also think it has a distinct something that makes it unique.
