Been thinking on this. What are your thoughts?

Session Beer

Pale Malt

CM 40

Oats

60 Magnum

Burst Azzaca

Blend of Grapefruit and Orange peel in the keg

Omega Tropical IpA yeasties.

I would add something with the azacca like Citra. I found azacca on its own underwhelming. I would go light on the crystal. Yeast looks good, same as wlp644.

I'm not overly familiar with azacca either.  the citra might go nice.  aren't there some other tropical fruit hops out there now?  was el dorado one of them?

for the crystal I'd use something like C15 or C20.  less caramel taste and just some body and a little sweetness.

I would also add a touch of the peel at flame out or in the fermenter pre-yeast.

So if you added orange and grapefruit peel to the keg, how would you do that? Zest? Just peel the fruit and drop the peel pieces in there? Worry about contamination?

I have no experience with Azacca but I was thinking that some Citra and/or Amarillo would be good here too. No clue on that yeast either. I have always thought of making some sort of "lemon wheat" where the beer had some moderate hoppiness but then some lemon zest (mixed with vodka?) added to either a secondary and then racked off or to the keg. Seems like a good summer idea but I would love to know how you guys would introduce the fruit.

Sounds good. I will replace with CM20 and blend late with Citra. Although I had a Azzaca single hop from Crane that was amazing. As far as handling contaminants I was planning on soaking the peels in vodka then adding them into my keg dryhooper. Adding some peel at flameout is also another good idea.

Thanks fellas..

I like it.  I would lose the crystal and use an additional citrusy hop.  Like the oats in there.  I used flaked frequently in my boring rotation.

Try using some malted oats sometime, nice addition to the flaked.

I like something in there to aid with mouthfeel on these session beers. Commercial session IpA tastes like cheap hop tea to me simply because of the mouthfeel. I hit a home run using oats on my session Pils and expect the same with this beer,

Could you posted your session pils recipe? Sounds like something I would like.

I have a white pale ale in primary using Azacca and Idaho 7. My LHBS had a PA on tap with those 2 hops and the orange flavor was very prominent. My WPA had dried clementine peel added to the boil (along with coriander) and I plan on adding some orange oil at kegging.

I might suggest using a "pale ale" malt like CMC pale ale or even a higher end golden promise or MO if you want to get fancy.  it would help with adding a little richness to a low ABV beer.

I pretty much strictly use CMC Pale Malt. Been using it since the days of $17 per bag. Yes, that right, per bag!

For tropical, I'd consider some Mandarina hops, or possibly Lemon Drop or Huell Melon.
