httpss://www.experimentalbrew.com/podcast/episode-44-pocket-pitching-seals-updated

We start, as always, with your feedback and recap our successful charity effort, before we head to the Pub, where we reminisce about HomeBrewCon and what we did and enjoyed. We talk about a new seal (no not that one - that's later) and about Russian River's success and planned sale.

In the library, Drew takes a little bit of time to talk about Patrick McGovern, the Indiana Jones of Beer, and his latest book, Ancient Brews.

In the lab, we break down the results of our UnderPitch experiment - what went right and how Drew sorta, kinda goofed part of the whole thing. (Yeah, he's fired). What does happen when the freshest yeast you can get meets wor in two very  different quantities?

Then in the Lounge, it's another double dose of interviews - first, live from the Southern California Homebrewers Fest, Drew and Marshall Schott (Brülosophy) interview Joshua Kunkle about his portable pocket randall infuser with a less than work safe name! Then, Denny and Drew sit down with Bob Pease, the CEO of the Brewers Association about the newly introduced "Independent Beer" seal (note - not craft beer seal as Denny states).

We skip over questions this week (Hey, Episode 48 is a Q&A - get some questions to us!) We do drop a quick tip and Drew reminds us why movie trailers can remind you of some awesomely non-family friendly music. (Seriously!)

For the next time you guys tackle questions, here's a topic: 30-minute boils. Good or bad? Any downside that anyone knows of? What happens if you have a 60-minute boil with a FWH addition and then do that same recipe but change the boil to 30 minutes? What would the FWH addition change due to the shorter boil time? I'd love to hear what some of the guys think about it. I was also thinking about posting it over on AHA. Cheers Denny.

Agreed. I've now sampled three 30m beers. I just wondered if these homebrew all-stars have played with it and had anything to share about their experiences. If I found that color might be more pale and bitterness might need to be higher than expected, I assumed these guys might have more to share with us bench players. :D

I mean... they're still tabulating the votes so I suppose it's possible. Some of us are all-stars, I think.

30 min. boils are SO 2016!  I've been doing 20 min. boils, although without FWH.  Not intentionally, just haven't tried it yet.

What I would expect from the panel of experts was that 30m boils seem to work beautifully but that there may be some small things to consider: FWHing, clarity (so far I seem to be getting clear 30m boil beers), a beer that is more pale than it would be with a 60m boil, less bitterness unless you use even more bittering hops than previously used and... whatever else the panel of experts says. :P
