I have known him for 25+ years and he's a cop in a local suburb. He started dabbling in homebrewing a few years ago and he just texted me, "What's the best brand of kegerator that money can buy?". I think he's thinking of something you buy at Beverage Factory that's just ready to go... plug it in and go. Thoughts?

Looks like Kegco, Marvel, Summit and Everest make A LOT of them.

Point him towards Beverage Factory; they have some drool-worthy setups there.

Or, you could help him build a sweet bar setup like yours.  :D

I personally prefer a regular fridge with some picnic taps.  then you can use the freezer for hops.

I think that true would be a good way to go but I don't know a ton about this.

This is a guy who works like a dog. When he's not working as a cop he does security detail at a local outdoor concert venue in the village where he works. As a result, I don't see him wanting to "convert" anything. IOW, he has more money than time. I was just on Beverage Factory and saw all kinds of 1-, 2- and 3-tap jobbies and some are quite pricey. The funny thing is that most homebrewers would laugh at the idea of plunking down that kind of cash.

there is no convert required if you use picnic taps.  just take the shelves out of the fridge and go!  maybe put a piece of plywood in the bottom at most.

Ken, I saw some really nice BeverageAir kegerators on Beverage Factory's website that looked pretty damn cool; some of the 3-4 tap commercial kegerators.

I think they would fit both homebrew and commercial kegs.

He just got back to me to say that the lady who runs one of the local LHBS (I go there too) sells a stainless 2-tap True kegerator for $1700 and will come to his house to set it up. Not sure what there is to set up but he's not an experienced brewer (or dispenser...) so he may have questions. I don't know if that's a good price or not but I probably wouldn't do that unless I had more disposable income and far less time! :D

true makes quality stuff.  are the taps SS b/c I would def steer him towards that.  forward sealing if possible.

Tell him for $1500 you will put the system together for him.  You could probably easily do it for half that amount and pocket the rest.  Hell... I'd do it if I were down there.
