How long do you save it for???

I plan my brew days so I can use it in a couple days. This week Friday and Sunday.

I've always wondered this...

With the water reclamation issues out in Colorado, how do you handle the chilling without feeling guilty about it? I know I'm amazed at how much water is used to brew a batch of beer and have at times felt "jeez, this seems wasteful".

It's so dry here that it gets sucked up by my lawn extremely quickly. I just let it run off to the side of my driveway, and I never water the front lawn at all. I figure that evens it out.

The chill is when I do most of my cleaning up. Don't mind at all.

I just run the cooling water through a sprinkler to the lawn, I don't waste it, I only cool for 25 minutes tops, 58 degree groundwater and 5 gallon batches are nice.

Walking away from the chill has been bad for me in the past.

I only chill for about 10 minutes with a 25' stainless immersion chiller. In 10 minutes (in the summer) I can get the wort down from 212 to about 80° and then it goes into a sink with ice and water. I catch the first five gallons of chill water (which are the warmest) in a bucket and pour that out in the garage or on the driveway to clean it off and then catch the next 5 gallons and use it to water plants around the house. Also, I never walk away from the chill... I stir and chill for the 10 minutes and then take the kettle into the kitchen for an ice bath.
