Plan B is out.  We're on an old server and they don't offer php upgrades without upgrading the whole server.

 

Plan C is in.  I'll be exploring options tomorrow.

I had assumed it got lost in India, just like half of the posts I've tried to make the last week.

New hosting has been secured.  A test version of the site will be set up over the weekend.  Next week the mods will try to break it.  If all goes well, the migration will happen some time next week.

 

Since the work is much more substantial than was expected, the price will be higher.  Also, the old hosting contract was about to expire, so we were about to have a pledge drive anyway.  I'll be rolling a year's worth of hosting fees into the upcoming pledge drive.  Expected total needed for the migration work and the hosting: about $450, though it could be less if the transition goes smoothly.  This new host is about 85% cheaper than the old one.

Also, can we do an obnoxious, NPR style pledge drive? Maybe we can get codemonkey to make the page functionally useless until people take 5 minutes to carefully navigate through the pledge drive to get to the PH? 5 more mins to get to the Hot Spot

I wasnt donating for the status upgrade, it just occurred to me a few days ago i wasnt a patron, and this seemed like a good time to ask for it.
