We are implementing a 10-day waiting period on flounces. The main purpose is to lessen the amount of work required of the mods when people leave, then change their mind, then leave again, come back again, etc. 1) If you feel that you no longer want to participate in the board for whatever reason, simply stop coming back. No grand 'Delete my account' gesture is required. In the first place, we will not delete your posts because it screws up the database royally when hundreds or thousands of posts are no longer there. At most, we will set your account inactive.2) If just going away is not good enough and you insist on being set inactive, let one of us know and we'll start the clock. If you haven't changed your mind and come back to posting after 10 days, we will change your account to the 'weeped' group, which will be a new group created for this purpose. Functionally, it will be the same as being banned and you will not be able to come back under the same username in the future.3) weep threads in the PH to say goodbye are okay. Do not, however, expect to use them to bash us and air your grievances. If you are washing your hands of us, we will feel no obligation to let you go out with a 'bang.' Note that it is perfectly acceptable to have a weep thread in the PH to say goodbye, then go away without asking to be moved to the weeped group. That would let you come back in 6 months or a year if you wanted.4) Finally, remember that we have a "sans-PH' group that will still allow you to participate in wine/beer/mead discussions without being subjected to the PH. If you would like to be moved to that group, just let us know.

So people aren't allowed to post an epic weep with rant on their way out?

Does the 10 day clock get out sourced to India? How are India holidays factored into the count?

I think George has the right idea. I mean above and beyond it meaning that you are a drama queen, weeping is just really annoying. If you don't like what I have to say, leave. If someone pisses you off momentarily, take a break (I do frequently) and come back when you are less emotional about it all. People who weep, as I stated about, are looking for the spotlight. :frank:

epic flounces are awesome. i think George is right on in terms of not tolerating attacks against the people who run our home sweet home though.

#3 needs to be stricken from the guidelines. A traditional weep requires a dramatic exit. Like a lot of things, the PH has diluted the meaning of the word through over-use. That's fine, but to actually prevent an honest to goodness weep through regulation is nothing short of blasphemy. Post to say goodbye? Do we hug and share our feelings afterwards?I do like the weeped group though.

I don't even get the need to ban/weep anyone. If they want to leave, let them leave. If they come back, who cares? Some waiting period sounds like more trouble than less. Less would be to just not do it any more.

I agree with this. Let them ask for their account to be deleted or whatever, but that doesn't mean you have to actually do anything. Just leave them as an active member.Maybe reset their rep points to 0 just to show them who's boss. :frank:

The intent for #3 is not to stop a typical weep thread. It's to stop abusive ones. We assume good intentions as a rule unless the opposite is blatantly obvious. Because of this, we normally give people the benefit of the doubt in many posts that might be objectionable on the surface. We base this policy on past good times and the expectation of more in the future. We don't want to drive anybody away. However, if you're announcing your intention to leave us in such a dramatic way, you're burning bridges. Don't expect us to give you the same consideration we give people still in the community. The 10 day thing is purely to lessen our workload. Studies have shownTM that something like half the people who "weep" ask to come back after the first few days, and it's a hassle to continuously change people's status. We DO feel that we should honor people's requests to be removed from the board if they ask it, though, and 10 days is a compromise position.
