If you're making it with tap water that's as hard as mine, it may be above 3 pH as soon as you make it. :( If it's cloudy instantly, don't save it. (I'd personally consider not using it at all in that case, but 5 Star is on the record saying it still sanitizes. I just don't understand how...if it's above 3.) However, if you make it with RO or other soft water, it will stay good indefinitely.

Mine turns cloudy almost instantly, but the pH remains below 3.0 for a veeeery long time. I think I've kept a batch for 1.5-2- months and the pH was still below 3.0..but dumped it anyway because I did know it was dirty.I really don't think that the cloudiness has any effect on it's performance.

Yes, cloudy does not automatically equal bad, but you should test to be sure. However, clear DOES automatically equal good.

Wow, then mine's been good for a year!

I think he just means upon initial mixing. For long-term stored StarSan you should just check the pH.

I've had some that was fine for a year, though I use RO water to make up the solution. I just make sure that everything I sanitize is clean first. If you put dirty equipment into the bucket it'll lose it's potency fairly quickly. It's so easy to use and so cheap that I can't imagine ever using something else.
