I went through my hops, and I just had to take a sniff of each one as I was vacuum sealing them. Some had some citrus type smell, others had like a more mellow plant-type smell, and then I get to the Amarillo. I take a sniff, look down to make sure I grab the right bag - yup Amarillo pellets - take another sniff and I was surprised how they had a familiar scent to them. Similar to the scent of their naughty cousin. Still different, but I could smell some similarity there. Is my nose playin tricks on me or what? :)

I have a bunch of bottles sitting around with beer in them No idea what's in them. I think I bottled them up for comps or something last summer. Anyway one fell and broke. In one second I knew it was Amarillo IPA. Very distinct goodness. :)

I get that big time from Summit. I brewed an IPA that was dry hopped with summit and it was like Ganja Brau. I also get some Ganjarific scents from Zeus.Mashman

Maybe you mislabeled the hops. Columbus always has that dank smell of the cousin to me. Amarillo is like a soft Centennial that is more citrusy.

I hope you made penance for beer waste!

One of the local brewers here enjoys using Amarillo and his beers have a distinct grapefruit flavor & aroma.

I love the combination of Amarillo and Cascade dry hopped in the keg. OR... aple ale hopped heavily and exclusively with Amarillo.

That's very close to how I smell it - kind of a cross between oranges and grapefruit. Extremely distinct.

Yeah I'm on board with this one. Not so much "da skunk" as the OP is saying... not sure what is up there.

I bought a pound of Amarillo this year and have used in in a few beers already. All flavor additions with that citrus flavor. They are wonderful becoming a favorite of mine quickly as well.
