Will starsan mess up a septic system? Yeast sludge and trub? Any concerns or continue brewing like usual?

I usually dump all my sludge/yeast/trub in the compost pile, the small part I do wash down my basement sink goes into a separate drywellI use iodophor still so I don't about Starsan, but at the diluted rate it would enter a septic tank I doubt it would have any effect, as the ph would go well above it's useful range

I would think that yeast/trub would be good for the septic system. as mention the starsan would dilute pretty much immediately to a non-effective level.

I just want it in my compost, it kicks ass in there too, along with my spent grain

sometimes I'm too lazy to bring it out. the spent grain def goes in though! the worms seem to love it.

:blush:now that you mention it, yeah, but it goes in the basement laundry sink, which dumps to a drywell, not the septic tank

I make it a point to nut use drain cleaners with my system, or put food or grease down the drain.

I dump starsan and pbw down mine. At the amounts we are dealing with and other water that's being used in the septic system the PH of these products should neutralize. I've had no issues either. I also dump no big solids either.

Everytime I've brewed with septic my SRM's are way too high and I get this nutty off-flavor. Diacetyl maybe? :scratch:In all seriousness the only thing I am weary of dumping down the drain is excessive hop trubbage. If I am emptying a carboy that I've dry hopped in I just dump it in the ditch.

I've got to many dogs running around to dump hops in a ditch. Mine go in a composter. The same composter that some bad yeast went into. :)

That's a good point. I don't have dogs and I live in a very rural area. No 'owned' dogs run loose out here - so no worries from neighborhood dogs. But I do have to be aware of friends with dogs are coming to visit.
