The Upstate Brewtopians will most likely be there. We'll have to see where Brewhead is this year.

I'm surprised that Big Daddy Love is not on the lineup since they're from the area. I saw them out here at Meadowgrass and really enjoyed their music. The bluegrass rendition of Sweet Child o' Mine was worth the price of admission all by itself.

They are awesome. I run The Mountain Sports Festival in Asheville (Memorial Day Weekend), and they were one of the bands on our schedule last year. That was my first time seeing them and got their CD. My 4 year old loves Good Morning Sunshine.

I ran over to the merch tent right after their set and talked to the fiddle player for a while. Real nice guy. I ended up buying the two CDs they had there. The CDs are good but nothing beats live music and particularly the covers they did (Big Country by BF & the Flecktones, Space Captain by Cocker in addition to GnR). I'll go see them again anytime they're around. They were the highlight of the festival for me; I liked them a lot better than Son Volt.

Kind of hard to compare them to Son Volt though. This sounds like an awesome time, have a beer and dance like a crazy person for me!

No, I wasn't trying to compare their music to Son Volt. It's just that they put on a more entertaining show. Don't get me wrong, Son Volt was very good but they sort of mailed it in. BDL was having a great time, was happy to be there and energized the audience.

I have never seen Son Volt, but I could see that. I don't know if you have heard it or not, but check out an album called "Music From Big Sur" by Ben Gibbard and Jay Farrar. Jay is a talented dude.

No question. The whole band was extremely talented. It just seemed to me that there was someplace else Jay would rather have been. The stage was setup under this big tent and most of the audience was under that tent. Although by the time Son Volt took the stage there was a huge crowd gathered around outside the tent too. Anyway, at one point he sort of disparagingly referred to it as a "circus tent". I've heard he doesn't interact with the crowd much and if that's his style, that's ok but he acted as though that venue was beneath him.I've heard of that album but never listened to it. I'll check into it.

Yeah the music is perfect for the setting of the album IMO. Very oceany, wave washed, California country sound to it. Almost breezy. Plus I am a sucker for pedal steel and it is all over it. I do get the impression from some interviews that Jay kind of thinks very highly of himself, to speak euphemistically.
