Bday Party?  Will you be serving beer?

It just so happens....this is the party that the Rye IPA was developed for.  It's my wife's favorite beer, so it will be on tap along with a German pils and an Oatmeal brown ale.

Brewed with the lady, brewing again next weekend. she's off for the next month, so she wanted me to show her how to use my system my way so she can brew while I"m doing my crazy season at work. Gotta appreciate that, right? Made a session wheat today to grow yeast for the run. Got W34-70 and 2308 already building up for next weekends helles. Then onto a dry irish stout and more. It'll be nice to have HB on tap again.

Helles brewed, Maibock kegged and some deep system cleaning with the pbw. I also hung a light over the brew area. Chinook Black IPA on deck.

No brewing but I did make it down to Northern Brewer in the twin cities. I picked up 2 sacks of base malts and about 30#s of Munich crystal etc. Oh yeah. Damn you Mike, I had to pick up a pack of 1272.

I made a bochet mead on Sat and brewed an herb beer with a neighbor on Sun.  It was a honey basil ale that he had wanted to try for a long time, so we did a stove-top batch.

I am a little hesitant about the bochet.  It smelled/tasted great going into the fermenter, but I have not gotten fermentation going yet.  In a few hours it will be 48 hours.  :(

Brew day did not go as planned.

I planned to give BIAB a try after the manifold thread on here.  I started off the day with a failed thermocouple, poor pH, efficiency that was a lot lower than expected and grain absorption that was also less than expected.  I ended up just hopping at 90 with Chinook, Chinook and citra @10 2:1 and Chinook and citra again at 0.  Gravity was around 1.048 after a longer harder boil.  Threw in some M44 American Ale yeast and see what will happen.  It will be beer just not the beer I wanted.

Isnt if funny, no matter how long you have been brewing, you try a new major thing and its like your first day all over again.  At least that seems to happen to me.
