I got a used ball lock keg today and the inside is nasty,  The inner walls are rough with what I think is beer stone,  what is the best way to get rid of it?

Will hot PBW work?

Dan

I'd start there, but if it's beer stone you're gonna need to follow that up with an acid

PBW soak then a Star san double strength soak. Use RO water if you can get it for cheap.

How thick is your arm? If it can fit in there, you can scrub with bar keeper's friend if the pbw soak doesn't work for all of it. This has been my backup solution to cleaning hard to clean kegs. It does require more work, but when all else fails, it gets the job done.

Well then just open a can of spinach and drink a bunch of water that you can spit out through your pipe at high velocity instant Popeye keg cleaner.

Starsan solution gets the beerstone off my kettle and I would assume that a longer-than-usual soak in the keg would help out too. I get just barely get my arm inside a keg but I've never had a reason to 'scrub' with something like a scotchbrite pad or anything.

After a nice hot PBW soak and a long Starsan soak the keg is nice and clean.  Thanks everyone.
