Made a light RyePA this morning.  The mill was really laboring last night when I prepped.  It needs to be taken apart and the bearing cleaned.  I blew it off.  I attributed the hard crushing to the rye.  My 1.050 RyePA clocked in at 1.044 - oops.  Guess I need to do the maintenance.

I've been looking at 20# of honey sitting in the brew area since Christmas.  Added enough to bring the gravity up to 1.057.  Guess I made a session braggot.  B)

Rye kernels are smaller, but no harder to crush than barley.

I get a noticeable difference when crushing rye in my Barley Crusher. Much harder to crank.

Really?  Hmmm, with all the rye I've used I've never noticed that.

I've noticed that wheat is harder to crush than barley but not rye. Rye grains seem smaller than barley so they probably need a tighter mill.

Just wishful thinking for an excuse to procrastinate taking the mill apart.  Actually thinking about feeding some more honey in when fermentation slows in a day or so.  Might as well make the best of it.
