When you swirl your primary trub for harvesting yeast, do you swirl long and well enough to pull up all the dregs and get a very uniform creamy mix or is it better to just swirl the topmost sediments where most of the yeast is?

been a while but usually just swirled up what was left and dumped it in mason jars.  since they I've taken to splitting starters to save yeast if I'm going to do that but more likely now I'll just use a yeast 1 or 2 times and that's it.  10 gallon batches means not much reuse for me.

More and more lately I've racking most ales to bright tank, harvesting 1 or 2 jars of slurry and then pitching that jar of unwashed slurry into my next ale. Both the BT racking and pitching fresh slurries have greatly speeded up my batch turnaround time.

I not only swirl,I use a sanitized spoon to stir and scrape the bottom so I get everything.
